  • The AFE946 is part of a family of multi-channel, synchronous sampling, 24-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converters (ADC), featuring integrated programmable gain amplifiers (PGA), internal reference, and an onboard oscillator. The AFE94x series encapsulates all functionalities typically required for medical electrocardiogram (ECG) and electroencephalogram (EEG) applications. With its high level of integration and exceptional performance, the AFE94x enables the development of scalable medical instrument systems with significantly reduced size, power consumption, and overall costs.

Each channel of the AFE94x includes a versatile input multiplexer (mux) that can independently connect to internally generated signals for testing, temperature, and lead-off detection. Furthermore, any configuration of the input channels can be chosen to generate a right-leg drive (RLD) output signal. The AFE94x operates at data rates up to 64kSPS, facilitating software-based pace detection. Lead-off detection is implemented within the device using pull-up/pull-down resistors or excitation current/sources. Three integrated amplifiers generate the Wilson Central Terminal (WCT) necessary for standard 12-lead ECGs. Multiple AFE94x devices can be daisy-chained in high-channel-count systems.

    Packaging options include QFP-64 and a compact 8mm × 8mm, 64-ball BGA. The AFE94x is rated for a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
