The AFE948 is a multi-channel, simultaneous sampling 24-bit Δ-Σ analog-to-digital converter (ADC) series, featuring built-in programmable gain amplifiers (PGA), internal reference, and an onboard oscillator. The AFE94x incorporates all the essential functions typically required in medical electrocardiogram (ECG) and electroencephalogram (EEG) applications. With its high level of integration and outstanding performance, the AFE94x enables the development of scalable medical instrumentation systems with significantly reduced size, power consumption, and overall cost.
Each channel of the AFE94x includes a flexible input multiplexer (mux), which can independently connect to internally generated signals for testing, temperature, and lead-off detection purposes. Additionally, any configuration of input channels can be chosen to generate the right leg drive (RLD) output signal. The AFE94x operates at data rates up to 64kSPS, facilitating software-based pacemaker detection. Lead-off detection is implemented internally through pull-up/pull-down resistors or excitation current/sources. Three integrated amplifiers generate the Wilson Central Terminal (WCT) necessary for standard 12-lead ECG applications. Multiple AFE94x devices can be connected in a daisy-chain configuration in high-channel-count systems.
Packaging options include QFP-64 and a compact 8mm × 8mm, 64-ball BGA. The AFE94x is rated for operation within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
