The AFE954 (AFE95x) series is a multi-channel, simultaneous sampling, 24-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC) family, featuring a built-in programmable gain amplifier (PGA), internal reference, and an on-board oscillator. The AFE95x encompasses all the functionalities typically required for medical electrocardiogram (ECG) and electroencephalogram (EEG) applications. Due to its high level of integration and exceptional performance, the AFE95x enables the development of scalable medical instrument systems with significantly reduced size, power consumption, and overall cost.
Each channel of the AFE95x includes a flexible input multiplexer (mux) that can independently connect to internally generated signals for testing, temperature monitoring, and lead-off detection. Additionally, any configuration of the input channels can be used to generate the right leg drive (RLD) output signal. The AFE95x operates at data rates up to 64kSPS, facilitating software-based pace detection. Lead-off detection is internally implemented by the device using pull-up/pull-down resistors or current sink/source excitation. Three integrated amplifiers are used to generate the Wilson center terminal (WCT) required for standard 12-lead ECG. Multiple AFE95x devices can be connected in a daisy-chain configuration in high channel-count systems.
The device is available in a compact 8mm × 8mm, 64-ball BGA package. The industrial-grade BGA version is rated for operation from -40°C to +85°C.
