  • The AFE916 is a family of multi-channel, simultaneous sampling, 16-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), featuring an integrated programmable gain amplifier (PGA), internal reference, and an onboard oscillator. The AFE91x series encompasses all the functionalities typically required for medical electrocardiogram (ECG) and electroencephalogram applications. With high integration and superior performance, the AFE91x enables the development of scalable medical instrument systems with significantly reduced size, power consumption, and overall costs.

Each channel of the AFE91x includes a flexible input multiplexer (mux) that can independently connect to internally generated signals for testing, temperature monitoring, and lead-off detection. Additionally, any configuration of the input channels can be chosen to generate the right leg drive (RLD) output signal. Lead-off detection can be implemented internally via pull-up/pull-down resistors or excitation current sink/source. Three integrated amplifiers are used to generate the Wilson central terminal (WCT) required for a standard 12-lead ECG. Multiple AFE91x devices can be connected in a daisy-chain configuration in high channel count systems.

The device is packaged in a compact 8mm × 8mm, 64-ball BGA. The industrial-grade temperature range for the BGA version is from 0°C to +70°C.
